Feng shui garden

Feng shui garden How well do you take care of your garden? Does it look pleasant and inviting or seem like a rodent swamp? To create a good feng shui in your home, you not only have to concentrate on the atmosphere inside your house and furniture arrangement, but also pay attention to the outdoor area. No matter how excellent the interior decoration is, your home can never achieve the sense of true harmony unless your garden is properly "feng shui-ed".

The garden, from a feng shui perspective, should be in front of your house where people can easily see it. Trees and hedges at the back of the house symbolize protection and safety. To invite good fortune, however, the front area is where the flower garden should be located. And if you also have a fountain or fish pond in your garden, that will be even better! So if you have some space in front of your house, you should create a little garden there. A feng shui garden does not have to be big at all. Size is not as important as how you arrange it.

Here are some easy feng shui tips for your harmonious garden:

a) Trees should not stand too close to the house because they may block out the sun and prevent the chi (life force) from entering the house, which will cause the house to appear lifeless and make the occupants lose their energy and motivation. All the plants should be healthy. Dying plants, in feng shui belief, tend to bring bad luck and health problems, therefore they should be removed as soon as possible.

b) All kinds of flowers are supposed to create positive chi for your home, though in feng shui practice, there are five flowers that are considered more auspicious than others. They are peonies, chrysanthemums, white magnolias, lotuses and orchids.

o The peony, according to feng shui masters, is the most auspicious flower, as it stands for wealth and love. Whenever it blooms, something really fortunate is supposed to happen to the garden owner.

o The chrysanthemum represents happiness and laughter. Its gold color also symbolizes comfort and luxury. It is often grown indoors as well as out.

o The white magnolia and orchid stand for femininity, gentleness and hospitality. Grow them in your garden, and your guests will feel welcomed and relaxed when they come to visit you.

c) A fish pond is a highly propitious feng shui object that will enhance your financial luck and make your garden look more beautiful. Water is associated with prosperity and good fortune, and the fish are also extremely auspicious to have in your home. As fish have to swim upstream and leap over waterfalls in order to get to their breeding grounds, they represent wealth, diligence and career progress in feng shui belief. Any kind of fish is good, but traditionally, goldfish and koi (Japanese carp) are the most famous for a feng shui pond. Goldfish are considered auspicious fish because of their color.

Carp, on the other hand, are so famous in feng shui practice because its name in Chinese is pronounced "Lei-Yu", which sounds like "have wealth." Feng shui practitioners like to have nine fish in their pond: eight gold-colored fish and one black fish. The number eight is the lucky number that is believed to attract wealth, and the black fish is said to symbolize protection and safety for the home. The best location for a fish pond is the north, east and southeast areas of the garden. However, you should not build a fish pond on the right-hand side of the front door; most feng shui masters say that this location for a pond can create bad luck in marriage.

d) Although a fish pond is an auspicious thing to have in your garden, it can cost quite a bit of money to build and you need to have time to take care of it. A birdbath is another lucky feng shui object you may want to consider. It should cost less than a fish pond and does not need much attention. Like a fish pond, it contains water that invites prosperity. Birds that come to drink water from it are also believed to create positive chi for your home. Try to keep the water clean all the time. Ideally, a birdbath should sit where you can see it from inside the house. Most feng shui practitioners like to place a birdbath at the central area of their garden to create a large amount of beneficial chi.

e) Like a fish pond and birdbath, a fountain is great to have in the garden and supposed to invite financial luck. Remember to turn it on everyday. The flowing fountain, from a feng shui perspective, represents wealth that streams abundantly into your life while a dried up one symbolizes money being drained away.
